THE CARTOON MUSEUM
THE WINDSOR TAPESTRY

As Lead Graphic Designer, I created all digital and print media for The Windsor Tapestry

The exhibition highlights the work of political cartoonist Steve Bell, showcasing his unique depictions of the royal family and significant British political figures from the past few decades.

My work included designing infographic labels, life-sized cutout graphics, and animated digital posters. I also updated the Museum’s brand guidelines and animated assets to create a fresher and more appealing experience for visitors and members.

Firstly,  here is a glimpse of how the exhibition looks:

BRAND GUIDELINES:

POSTER:

I began by reworking a poster from a previous Steve Bell exhibition in France, transforming it into a more visually engaging design. Drawing inspiration from the kinetic animations of Horrible Histories, I warped the text to create an exaggerated, onomatopoeic effect. Collaborating with the Museum Director, I refined the composition to ensure all key information was clearly and effectively presented.

INITIAL POSTER:                                                                     FINAL POSTER:                                                                       INITIAL FIRST DRAFT:

ANIMATED GIF:

Below is my final animated gif, which. was released on The Cartoon Museum’s social media pages

I approached the GIF in phases, beginning with the kinetic animation for “Steve Bell's”, and “The Windsor Tapestry”. Utilising After Effects and drawing inspiration from a collection of animated graphics from Horrible Histories, I created  motion graphics for each word (shown below), incorporating fluid and interactive animations designed to engage the viewer's attention immediately.

(RIGHT BELOW) As I assembled the graphics, I manipulated the cartoon, using Camilla's Unicorn as a loosely suspended frame (left), which ultimately drops to reveal the exhibition's release date.

(LEFT BELOW) I then simulated an animated wave to add to the final sequence of the animation.

WAVE ANIMATIONS:                                                                                                                   CHARLES AND CAMILLA ANIMATIONS

SAMPLE A3 and A6 LABELS:

Using the brand guidelines I created above, I designed all text labels on Adobe InDesign (A3, A5 and A6), following the same consistent word format and bleed dimensions for printing:
